What symptoms do allergies and ADHD share?

While ADHD and allergies are different conditions, some symptoms can overlap.

Does medicine affect the symptoms?

ADHD and allergy medications can influence the symptoms of both conditions.

Certain treatments used in ADHD can cause side effects such as insomnia, stomachache, headache, and nausea. These side effects may resemble allergy symptoms.

Antihistamines, commonly used to treat allergic reactions, can cause headaches and dizziness. This effect is more common in first-generation antihistamines, known for their sedative properties. These side effects can exacerbate ADHD symptoms, making it difficult to pay attention and focus.

Do they share any triggers?

ADHD as a whole isn’t exactly 'triggered', but certain factors may worsen individual symptoms. While standard allergic triggers, like dust, might not worsen ADHD symptoms, there are shared 'triggers' for both conditions.
